Creeping nationalization?

How the U.S Federal Government is approaching the issue of the failing U.S. auto industry is more important and deep than just headlines. While the current bill to subsidize the operations of GM, Ford, and Chrysler was thankfully blocked by the more-than-reasonable Senate Republicans, I am concerned about the long-term implications of the mindset that is now in fashion.
